Movember is a leading charity changing the face of men's health. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1250 men's health projects around the world transforming the way health services reach and support men. The organisation has been producing a series of reports titled The Real Face of Men's Health for all of their markets globally. Support was needed developing an Aotearoa New Zealand report in collaboration with key local stakeholders. Movember engaged Bridgeway Global for its experience and knowledge of the health and policy landscape. The organisation required complex and detailed information to be synthesized into actionable recommendations. Clear concise writing skills were needed to translate technical information into language appropriate for policy makers and the general public.
Bridgeway Global was embedded within the Movember policy and advocacy team for the duration of the report development. We met regularly with the team and partners to plan, order and progress the report. Draft sections were reviewed early in the process – rather than at the end of the project – to ensure the team's needs were met and to strengthen the final product. We worked with the Movember team and New Zealand stakeholders to gather and collate key data, policy context and landscape details, domestic and international evidence, case studies and programs. This information was used to develop a comprehensive report on the state of men's health in New Zealand and key policy recommendations.
The final product was an 80-page report outlining systemic barriers that contribute to poor health outcomes among men, including Māori and Pasifika communities. The report revealed the ripple effects of these outcomes on men, families, communities and economies. It calls for a national strategy to support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of boys and men across Aotearoa New Zealand. Bridgeway Global Director Shanthi Gardiner was honoured to be named as a significant contributor to the report. A copy of the report can be found here.
